The Notre Dame Prep Volleyball has had major success this 2017 season. Their overall record was 14-3 and their Northeast Valley Region record was 7-1. They made it to the state quarterfinals, but unfortunately lost to the Queen Creek Bulldogs (8-0). Their final match went to a decisive fifth set ending in a score of 15-13.
I visited the Saints home to learn how they’ve been so successful. Practice, teamwork, and coaching are just a few of the elements that make up a great volleyball team. But one player from Notre Dame Prep, brings just a little bit more.
Sophie Sydenham, a senior outside hitter, had a total of 326 kills this year, averaging about three kills per set with a hitting percentage of .282. But she contributes much more than stats to her team. Her coaches, teammates and community admire her ability to lead.
Sydenham hopes to take her volleyball skills to the college level and she is looking to stay close to home.
